Hello my wonderful Vallemar Community, welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! This year I’ve taken on the role of PTO President in addition to my duties as the 8th grade Language Arts, Social Studies and Journalism teacher. When I started teaching here three years ago I loved this community so much that we transferred our oldest daughter here. My husband and I now have both our girls at Vallemar, Claire is a third grader and Elise is a first grader.
Our family moved to Pacifica almost eight years ago, and have loved it ever since. My husband Aaron is a research doctor at the UCSF Brain Tumor Research Center and I have been in teaching and education for seventeen years. I grew up in Los Angeles and he grew up in NYC; but we have found our forever home in Pacifica. In my free time I train for and run marathons, listen to podcasts, attend live musical theater, and read mostly non-fiction.
I'm excited to contribute to making this year a success, and encourage you to join us in any way you can.
Hello my name is Carlos. I am a dad of a Vallemar 3rd grader, teacher, and proud Pacifica resident. I finally got my PTO dream job- Dad who shows up and BBQ’s. I am honored to serve as Vice President of Volunteer Services for the Vallemar PTO and for our school for the 2021-22 school year. I figure it is going to take some solid community involvement and volunteering to make our children’s school experience as enriching as possible, so let’s rock and roll! Please feel free to contact me via the PTO website or if you see me on campus, especially if you are able to volunteer when things start to hopefully clear up.
kristen van Antwerp
A native of Puyallup, WA, I’ve been in the bay area for 19 years. My husband and I moved to Pacifica in March 2017 and feel we have truly found where we belong. We have two children, Alexandria (fourth grade), and Arthur (first grade). I currently work as a family law attorney and love spending my non-work time helping out at Vallemar both in and out of the classroom.
I am a strong believer that parents play an integral part in their children’s education, and am so proud to be a part of this amazing group of parents who dedicate so much time and love to the children at our school.
I am looking forward to my fourth year on the PTO board here at Vallemar.
Co- Publicity Secretary
Thrilled to be joining the PTO, this is a first for me, I’m excited to be involved and looking forward to contributing to the Vallemar School/Community. I’m a Bay Area native from
San Jose, made my way up to SF and landed in Pacifica 15 year ago with my husband Brian. We have two wonderful kids at Vallemar; Hazel who’s headed into 4th and Wes, going into 2nd. Happy to be on the board and getting back to our new normal!
6-8 grade rep
I've been an active volunteer at Vallemar School for the past 11 years, as a PTO board member, field trip chaperone, and as a helper for numerous fundraisers, as well as serving as vAcademy co-chair from 2016 - 2018, 8th grade chairperson for the Class of 2019, and as organizer of Vallemar's first outdoor movie night and first student-designed Spirit Wear contest. Our family has lived in Vallemar for 18 years and I'm the mom to an 8th grader and an Oceana high school junior/Vallemar alum. I work full time as a VP of Communications in the TV and tech industry, and I have a BA in Psychology. For the past 11 years, I've been the leader of my daughter's Girl Scout troop and a board member of the service unit, and I am also the Founder and organizer of the Pacifica Boys Adventure Club and oversee a group of teens providing a grassroots community service pop-up that provides food, clothing, and hygiene items to anyone in need in San Francisco. I was also co-chair of the successful Measure D Pacifica school district parcel tax renewal campaign in the Spring of 2016.
Co- K-2 Grade rep
I was raised in Minnesota but moved to the Bay Area for college and never looked back. My husband Peter Nelken and I have lived in Pacifica for the past 5 years and our children Miles (3rd) and Mabel (kinder) are excited to be part of the Vallemar school.
This is my first year serving on the PTO board and I’m happy to have the K-2 co-representative position. I’m proud to be part of a community of parents and teachers that are so involved in our children’s education and futures. I love hiking the many coastal trails, camping with my family and I almost always have knitting in my hands.
Please feel free to reach out with questions or just to say hi. I look forward to meeting you!
My name is Charlotte and if you like me, you can call me Char. I am a proud Mom to Avery, a Vallemar Alum and Quinn, a Vallemar Sixth Grader. This will be my eleventh year as a parent at Vallemar and tenth as a PTO board member. My motivation as a board member is, and always has been, inclusivity. Every parent, guardian and teacher makes up the PTO and everyone deserves a voice in their child’s educational experience.
I work full-time as Director of Marketing for an insurance agency which keeps me busy but never too busy to serve my community. I make time for PTO because I care deeply for our children and teachers at Vallemar. My favorite way to volunteer at school (when I take a day off work) is to join Ms. Lobao on Kindergarten tours and chaperone field trips. I love meeting new families! If you can’t find me on campus, I am always just a call, text or email away. I’d love to encourage new families to get involved.
This will be my fourth year on the PTO and my first year as Accounts Receivable Treasurer. My son is in the 5th grade. We are very happy to be part of the Vallemar School community.
A native to Wisconsin, my family and I moved to Pacifica a year ago. Our son, River, will be a 6th grader at Vallemar this year.
Starting a new school while distance learning was hard, but we were very impressed with our new school and with the experience we had last year, and we’re so happy to be a part of our new Vallemar community.
I have a strong belief that parents play an important role in our children’s education. I feel a strong desire to be connected to our school community and to find a way to give back. Our vAcademy is a really great program that our school is fortunate to have, and I am really excited to be part of it this year.
I am looking forward to my first year working with the PTO board, and getting to know new families and friends at our new school!
co- publicity secretary
Our family is excited to join the Vallemar community! I have two boys, Ben in 1st grade and Jack in TK - he will join the Vallemar family next year. I am eager to be more involved as a Vallemar parent as I start my first year serving on the PTO. I look forward to the upcoming year and serving as the Publicity Secretary.
3-5 grade rep
This is my second year on the PTO Board as a parent rep, grades3-5. Our daughter, Lily Grace, is in the 3rd grade. I’ve been a SF firefighter for the past 19 years and I take my skills on the road, when I’m able, to teach kiddos (SFFISE) about fire safety. It’s so fun to walk into a classroom with my uniform on and talk to the eager students about my job and how to be safe.
My husband and I moved to Pacifica in 2011, living in SF we felt a lack of community and connection, we found that here in Pacifica. Both being water babies, we wanted to raise a Family here and it was the best decision.
I love volunteering in Lily’s classroom, I’m looking forward to getting back to that, it’s my favorite thing to do on my days off other than swimming. We are so very proud to be part of the Vallemar Family and this amazing school. I started going to PTO meetings before I was part of the Board, it was the passion and commitment of people I was in the room with that truly inspired me to be more involved as a parent. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for questions, concerns, or a parent connection.
I am a very lucky mom of two amazing kids- Dominic in 4th grade and Julian in 6th grade. I live in Vallemar with my kids, husband Rick, cat Jaxon and dog Lima.
We love so many things about Vallemar School- the teachers and staff, the friends and parents, the sense of community and of course the amazing PTO! This will be my 6th year on the PTO in roles ranging from Co-VP of Fundraising to Activities and Programs Coordinator, Co-President and now back to Co-VP of Fundraising. I’ve found each role rewarding and exciting in very different ways.
We love to see new faces and fresh ideas at PTO Meetings (virtual ones too)! Please join us!
There are many things we love about our Vallemar School community. The PTO, teachers, and staff made us feel welcome and connected to the School since the day our oldest started Kindergarten years ago. We feel lucky to be a part of this family. Even though we have volunteered at many fundraising events, this will be my first year serving on the PTO Board in the role of Accounts Payable Treasurer. I look forward to working with everyone to support and enrich students’ education.
Co- vAcademy Coordinator
I've lived in Pacifica for four years. My kids are Leona (5th grade) and Ronen (2st grade). I'm a financial analyst and spend my free time hiking, going to the theater, and reading. This is my second year serving on the board and my first year as co-vAcademy coordinator. The vAcademy program is one of the things that attracted our family to Vallemar and I'm tremendously excited to work on it.
8th grade chair
I am a proud mom of 6 kids, yes that is right, I said SIX, of which 4 attend Vallemar. I have an 8th grader this year, twins in 3rd grade and a kinder starting this year! I am a Vallemar alum myself , and I grew up Pacifica, couldn't think of a better place to raise our family. I am a sponsor for AYSO along with being team mom for our kids.
This is my second year as being a member on PTO board, and I am excited to bring an amazing year to all of our Vallemar Teachers , students and families.
I am a full time mortgage loan advisor with the option to work from home and dedicate valuable time to being a hands on mom and volunteering which is so important to help with enrichment for our students. While life keeps us busy, I am looking forward to a new year and many new opportunities to improve our school and our community. Being new to the school or wanting to volunteer but not sure where to start...I love chatting with people so feel free to say hi and reach out.
For those that know me, throwing over the top parties is a true passion, so I can't wait to make this year's graduation one for the books as the 8th grade chair!
